Logan County Good Samaritan has agreed to serve as a tax preparation site for the Barren River Asset Building Coalition (BRABC) in Logan County. The coalition is in its third year and with the addition of Logan County, we will now be providing free tax assistance to low income persons in Allen, Barren, Edmonson, Green, Hart, Logan & Warren counties. Last year, coalition volunteers filed 605 returns, with 184 claiming earned income tax credits totaling $240,506. Total refunds generated from the 605 returns were $481,685. This service is of great assistance to low-income individuals and saves them the high cost of paid tax preparation and also keeps them from using the high cost “refund now” services!
In order to launch services in Logan County for the upcoming season, we
need volunteers to commit to assist as tax preparers and site
greeters. Tax preparers must go through on site (Scheduled for
December 6 in Bowling Green) and on-line training and testing (done at
your convenience, but completion and certification needed prior to
starting). The hours for service (during business hours or evenings or
Saturday) are flexible and will be determined between the site (Logan
County Good Samaritan) and the volunteers. We do plan to avoid the
first week of each month due to the high volume of clients/services at
Good Samaritan.
