LCHSTeachers.com was launched at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year with a handful of teachers participating. The instigator of this project, Amanda Coursey, teaches Algebra 1 at LCHS in the Cougar Academy. The Academy is a reserved section of LCHS especially for Freshmen and designed to help them adapt to the change in learning climate in High School. Mrs. Coursey started her own "blog" when she first started her teaching career and used it as a way to communicate the numerous homework assignments that the students needed to accomplish to make the best grades possible. The site was an instant success, and this led Mrs Coursey to look for ways to bring this technology to the other teachers at LCHS in the simplest possible way. "We really wanted parents to be able to go to one place and find all the information they needed to know what was going on in their classes," Mrs Coursey commented. The site, LCHSTeachers.com, is part of the MyLoganCounty.com network and is not managed by the Logan County or Kentucky school systems. As such, participation is not mandatory for the instructors at the school, but it has received a fairly warm welcome from some. Currently there are about 15 active users on the site, and there are a few more teachers helping to test out some as yet unannounced features of the site. Stay tuned to MyLoganCounty.com for more as the site develops! |
